The Situation
As demand increased for one of AtlasIED’s communication and life safety products commonly deployed in schools, commercial buildings, and large enterprise environments, they added a new assembly line which initially increased our output from roughly 400 units per week to about 800 units per week. But even at that level, AtlasIED was still unable to meet the growing customer demand.
TMAC arrived to facilitate a process flow workshop.
The Solution
Through TMAC’s process flow workshop, the AtlasIED team was able to identify a minute takt time opportunity on the production floor while final assembly was operating closer to three minutes.
- Able to achieve the one-minute takt time consistently.
- The line was rebalanced.
- Staffing adjusted from five to nine operators per line.
The Results
Because of this one process flow workshop, the AtlasIED team identified an opportunity on the line. Those changes resulted in a dramatic productivity improvement, increaseing throughput from approximately 400 units per week to nearly 4,000 units per week in stead production. A 900% increase because of a two-hour staff training investment.
